Life of Life and Born Again Part 1

I warmly welcome you, my friends, to this teaching titled "Light of Life and Born Again."

I hope you enjoy the image I’ve placed in this segment—it's a picture of the sun breaking through dark clouds. That visual beautifully represents the heart of this message: God’s light piercing through the darkness. I'm speaking here of spiritual darkness, not physical.

In 2 Corinthians 4:6, it says:

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts”—meaning our spirits—“to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Jesus also said in John 8:12:

“He that follows after Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.”

Notice He didn’t just say "a light," but the Light of Life—meaning it’s unique. It’s not one of many; it's the one true source.

In Matthew 4:16, we read:

“The people which sat in darkness have seen a great light, and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death, a light has dawned.”

Again, this is not natural light—it’s spiritual light.

Understanding the Born Again Experience

Let’s shift now into understanding what it truly means to be born again. The verses I’ve just shared all relate to this, and I’d like to give a natural illustration to help clarify this spiritual truth.

Imagine a man who owns a group of trees. One day, he walks up to a pear tree and, for whatever reason, decides he doesn’t like pears. He starts yelling at the tree: “Stop making pears! I want apples instead. Start making apples!”

Now picture us watching this scene. We'd think something was wrong with this man, wouldn’t we? He might even take a stick and hit the tree out of frustration. Yet no matter how much he yells, the tree continues to make pears. Why? Because that’s what it is. It produces fruit according to its nature.

Only a New Nature Produces New Fruit

Let’s change the scenario. Now the man approaching the tree is God. He understands that the pear tree can only produce what it's wired to produce. He says, “I know what you are. I understand how you came into the world. But I have a solution: I can release My life, My power, My nature into you.”

And with that, the tree could be transformed. It could receive a new nature—one that produces different fruit. This, my friends, is a picture of being born again.

Regeneration Explained

In the beginning, Adam and Eve were created with the nature of God—His life and His love. But when they ate from the forbidden tree, they lost that nature. Their spirits died. That’s why we talk about regeneration in the New Testament. You can’t be regenerated unless you were first degenerated.

Now, God offers us the chance to be recreated—to have a new spirit, a new nature. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old has passed away, behold, all things have become new.”

That’s what it means to be born again. It’s not about trying harder or fixing behavior. It’s about receiving a new nature from God.

The Mission of the Church

Sadly, many Christians and even some Bible teachers miss this. They focus on the sinful deeds of unbelievers—on things like abortion, corruption, or immoral behavior—but fail to understand the deeper issue. These actions are the fruit of the fallen nature.

Just like the pear tree can’t make apples, a person without Christ can’t produce righteous fruit. The nature must change. That’s why our primary mission as the Church is not to spark a morality revolution—it’s to get people born again.

Only after someone receives new life in their spirit can we begin the process of discipleship.

In Closing

What we need is not a flesh-based cultural morality shift. We need spiritual transformation—a change that comes from the inside out.

We’ll continue this teaching in Part 2, where we’ll dive into John chapter 3 and explore exactly what Jesus said to Nicodemus about being born again.

If you found this message meaningful, I’d appreciate it if you gave it a like or subscribed. Your support helps more people hear these life-changing truths.

Thank you for your time.
God bless you.
